“You have so much to say, to share…You should start a blog!”
For as long as I can remember I have had the overwhelming feeling that I was meant for something bigger than the circumstances of my birth. I have yet to discover or have revealed just what that “something” is, but oh what a journey it has been so far. My story, my life is an American story. As I continue to share and reveal my story, my experiences and my continuing journey you can judge for yourself and maybe learn a bit about yourself. I decided one thing not so long ago….that I would live each day simply striving to “Be Better”. I continue to work to figure it all out. Meanwhile here is a little about me:
Right now….
I am a once divorced, now remarried 59 year old father of 4 amazing children (3 daughters and 1 son),1 amazing grandson and 3 beautiful granddaughters: Children-Abigail, Olivia, Elena and Joseph . I have not always been the best father and trust me this will come up from time to time.
My first wife, is a good and kind woman. She deserved better than she got with me. We married young and now we are a statistic. Rest assured I bare the greater share of responsibility for the marriage failing….again we will eventually get to that….
My current wife, Carrie….well she is the woman I was meant to be with…my soulmate….this too I will discuss in due time.
30 second Bio….
I was born to a very troubled single mother on February 19, 1965 in Lynn, Massachusetts. I have two sisters and we are largely estranged. My parents moved to St. Louis, Missouri when I was very young and I have lived here ever since. 2 weeks after my sister was born, December 19, 1966 in St. Louis, my father left us. Never to return, would never see us again, not a call, not a letter and he never paid a dime of child support. We lived rough and troubled lives together and apart. My mother a single mother of 2 and then a 3rd……..in the 1960s and 1970s….not at all easy, comfortable or happy. It is a terrible thing to have no good childhood memories. My mother had 1 talent…choosing to allow bad men into our lives. The worst of which was the main reason for my leaving home at 16 years old, never to return. It would be the permanent fracture in what was left of us irreparably shattered as a family. With the help and support of friends, I graduated high school (barely) and mostly stayed out of any serious trouble. I then went to college, joined a fraternity, drank, smoked some weed, and almost never attended class. Needless to say….I returned to St. Louis to start over again. I met my first wife while at college that first time…her father gave me a job upon my return….and as you have figured….I married her. You know how that turned out.
I eventually did complete college, graduating from Webster University, cum laude with honors. I majored in History/Political Science (my academic 1st love) and Public Relations. I played competitive softball for over 30 years, I love the outdoors, especially stream fishing, and I play golf. My political views are generally liberal, I am a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks holding many positions of responsibility in my lodge & district. I am also a member of the Knights of Columbus (4th Degree). I am a proud Master Mason. I am a lifelong Cardinals & Blues fan and used to be a huge fan of the NFL until they screwed my city.
Much more to tell, much that happened during the above and I will eventually get to all of it in the context of this, my journey towards meaning, happiness, and making sense of it all.
I hope you will stick around and maybe even join in from time to time.
Peace,
DD
